ZA Betting is an independent comparison and information platform. We research and review sports betting operators available to South African bettors and present that research to help readers make informed decisions. We are not a bookmaker, we do not accept bets, and we do not hold any gambling licence.

How We Make Money — Commercial Disclosure
ZA Betting earns revenue through affiliate partnerships. When a reader follows a link to a betting operator and registers an account, we may receive a commission from that operator. This is how independent comparison sites of this kind are funded.
Commercial relationships do not determine our rankings or editorial assessments. Operators cannot purchase a higher position, a better rating, or the removal of a limitation from their write-up. Accuracy of Information
We make reasonable efforts to ensure the information published on ZA Betting is accurate and current at the time of publication. Each page carries a fact-check date. Licensing and Regulatory Information
South African sports betting is regulated under the National Gambling Act 7 of 2004. Licences are issued by nine provincial gambling boards — including the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, the Gauteng Gambling and Betting Board, the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator and the KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board, among others. The National Gambling Board provides oversight and coordination but does not itself issue operator licences.
A bookmaker licensed in any one South African province may lawfully accept bets from players anywhere in the country — you do not need to find an operator licensed specifically in your province.
Where we describe an operator as South African licensed, we include a licence number and issuing province, and we direct readers to verify that information on the relevant provincial board register or the National Gambling Board's verified-operators portal. We do not present an offshore licence as equivalent to South African regulatory protection. Offshore-licensed operators offer no regulatory recourse under South African law.
The status of casino-style RNG games offered under a bookmaker licence is currently disputed following an October 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal ruling. The National Gambling Board maintains it applies nationally; the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator and the SA Bookmakers Association dispute this position. The matter remains unresolved as of 2026. We report the dispute and do not assert a settled outcome.
The Remote Gambling Bill (B11-2024) is currently before Parliament. It is not law. We do not present it as enacted.
Tax
SARS does not generally treat recreational gambling winnings as gross income for individual bettors. Treasury proposed a 20% Gross Gaming Revenue tax on online gambling in 2026; this remains a proposal and has not been enacted into law. Nothing on this site constitutes tax advice. Consult a qualified tax professional regarding your own circumstances.
FICA and Verification
Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) verification — providing a valid South African ID and proof of address — is a legal requirement before a first withdrawal from any licensed South African bookmaker. We do not present this process as optional, as friction, or as something to work around. It is a statutory obligation that protects both the operator and the bettor.
Responsible Gambling
Gambling should be entertainment. If it stops feeling that way, support is available. All licensed operators are required to offer deposit limits, session controls and self-exclusion tools. Use them.
