The Africa Academy of Management is delighted to announce its inaugural conference which will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas, a day before the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. The conference will bring together all scholars of African and non-African descent who are interested in African management for a day of intensive inquiry and discussion. In addition to some trailblazers of African management, prominent international management scholars and executives of the Academy of Management will participate in this conference. Major activities include:

  • Plenary session
  • Scholarly (Presentation/Poster) session
  • Networking session
  • Business Meeting session

In accordance with the theme, “Advancing Africa Through Management Knowledge and Research” we are inviting paper submissions from African and non-African scholars of Management whose work focus on Africa. Papers focusing on topics in any of the broad areas of Management – Business Policy and Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Organization Theory, Organizational Behavior, and Human Resources Management – are welcome.

Sponsorship for Scholars from Africa:

The Africa Academy of Management is delighted to announce sponsorship for management scholars from Africa as part of its inaugural conference which will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas, a day before the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. The sponsorship includes:

  • airfare to and from the conference,
  • accommodation for the conference, and
  • fee waiver for participation in the Academy of Management annual meeting.

Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • nomination by the Dean (or Head of Department) of the Business of the applicant,
  • submission of a curriculum vitae, and
  • paper submission.

Qualification:

The following individuals qualify to apply for the sponsorship:

  • Africans who are affiliated (teaching or researching) with a business school or faculty of economic and management sciences,
  • Lecturers who teach in the field of management, broadly defined (e.g. strategy and business policy, human resource management, organization behavior, organization theory,
  • PhD students who are in the latter stages of their studies

Additional benefits include:

  • special fee for membership in Africa Academy of Management,
  • potential publication of paper in a journal (if selected),
  • exposure to international network of African and world scholars of in the field of management.

Selected candidates will be notified by June 15th, 2011. This date will enable them acquire visas to participate in the Conference.
